Borrisokane and District Vintage club Fun day
Borrisokane and District Vintage Club are holding their 4th Annual Threshing, Fun Day and Vintage Display in Borrisokane on Sunday, September 12th. The entertainment for the day will include some of
your favourites from last year. There will also be a display of vintage tractors, cars and all sorts of bits and pieces for all the vintage enthusiasts, along with a demonstration of the Threshing Machine.
This event has been hugely successful over the past three years and is proving to be great family day out. More details next week. The organising committee meet on Tuesday night in the Snooker Hall, Borrisokane at 9 p.m. and anybody interested in helping out on the
day are invited to come along.

Celebrating Tipperary in All Ireland
A special Mass this Saturday at 8pm in Borrisokane where we will honour any person male or female who wore a Tipperary Jersey. Young people will also be involved.
Meditation in Borrisokane. A new series of get together to meditate begins on Thursday 9th Sept. at 8pm in the Parish Room, Borrisokane. All are welcome. Contact Olive 087-6412532 or Deirdre 067- 27362

There will be Social Dancing in Ballingarry on Saturday, 11th September with music by Brian McDermott.

LATE MARIE BURKE
The death occurred on Saturday, August 28th, of Mrs Marie BURKE, (née Liffey) of Hillside, Birr, formerly Pharmacist, Eyrecourt, Ballinasloe, Galway. Marie’s late husband Tom ran a very successful Pharmacy in Borrisokane for many years and the Burke family were held in high esteem by all who knew them.
To her sons, daughters, sister Sheelagh, grandchildren, sons-in-law, sisters-in-law, relatives and friends sincere sympathy is tendered. After reposing at her home on Sunday remains were removed for Requiem Mass in Eyrecourt Church on Monday, after which burial took place in Meelick Cemetery.

Parent, Toddler and Baby Group
The Parent, Toddler and Baby Group resumes in the Methodist Hall on Tuesday September 7th from 10.30am-12 noon. Enquiries to Marian/ Brigid @ 067 41922.

Irish Dance Classes
Irish Dance classes for pupils of the Slevin School will resume after the summer break in the Church of Ireland Hall on Thursday September 9th at 3.30 and 4.30pm. New pupils will be very welcome to go along
to these classes which will be conducted each Thursday. (see advert).

Community College News
Leaving Certificate: Congratulations to students, staff and parents on the excellent results achieved by students in the Leaving
Certificate. We wish our class of 2010 the best of luck as they move on to further education and training. The Graduation Dance will take
place on Thursday 26th August in the County Arms Hotel Birr.
School reopens for the new school year as follows:
First Year on Tuesday, August 31st.
Second and Fifth years on Wednesday. September 1st.
Third and Sixth years on Thursday September 2nd.
Transition Year on Friday September 3rd.

LATE JOHN HAUGH
The death took place on Wednesday, 18th August, of Mr John Haugh, Kylepark, Borrisokane and formerly of Doonaha, Co. Clare. John, who was an extensive farmer prior to his retirement, was a very popular member of the local community and was held in very high
esteem by all who knew him.
To his daughter Eileen, sons daughter-in-law, sons-in-law, grandchildren, relatives and friends sincere sympathy is tendered.
After reposing at his residence on Friday remains were removed to SS. Peter and Paul’s Church, Borrisokane for Funeral Mass on Friday
morning after which burial took place in adjoining cemetery.

LATE PATRICK MURPHY
It was with great sadness that the people of Borrisokane heard of the death of Mr Patrick Murphy, Amsterdam and Birr and formerly of
Ballyhaden, Borrisokane which occurred on Tuesday, August 10th. Patrick, who was son of Catherine the late Paddy Murphy, was a member of a well known and highly respectable family and his untimely passing at just 45 years of age is deeply regretted by all. After Funeral Mass in St. Brendan’s Church, Birr on Saturday last burial took place in Clonoghill Cemetery, Birr. To his mother Catherine, brothers Michael and Barry, sisters-in-law Bernadette and Marie, nieces Ruth and Rebecca, uncles, aunts,
relatives and friends sincere sympathy is extended.

Haven Haiti Appeal
Local hurler Tadghie Slevin is holding a Gala Fundraiser on Sunday 29th August to include a Sale of Work at 2 p.m. in the Church of
Ireland Hall, Birr Road, a 'How Strong is Your Pub' Tug of War in Borrisokane Town Park at 4 p.m. and a 'Duck Race' at 7 p.m. at the
Bridge. Borrisokane. Donations for the Sale of Work greatly accepted in the Hall on
Saturday 28th August (items accepted include books, toys, furniture, bric a brac).
The day will conclude with a music session in Mac Aogains. Your support would be appreciated. For Further information please contact Tadghie on 087 9625377.
All funds raised will go towards Tadghie's bid to travel with the Haven Partnership for the Built-it week in Haiti in October.

Borrisokane young adults are holding a table quiz in MacAogains on this Friday Night 27th at 9 p.m. Your support would be greatly

LATE MAR HOULIHAN
The death took place on Monday, 2nd August of Mrs Mar Houlihan (nee Cleary), Fairgreen, Borrisokane at her residence. Mar, who was
predeceased by her husband Brud, was a very popular member of the local community and was held in very high regard by all. Throughout
her long life Mar worked tirelessy for many different voluntary organisation in Borrisokane and was one of the main fundraisers for
the building of the the New Church in Borrisokane back in the early 1970’s. The huge turnout at both the reposing, Funeral Mass and burial bore testimony to how well she was taught of in the community.
After reposing at her home on Tuesday remains were removed to Sts. Peter’s and Paul’s Church, Borrisokane on Wednesday morning for
Funeral Mass after which burial took place in Nenagh Road cemetery.
To her son Michael, daughter Noeleen, daughter-in-law Mary, grandsons
Ronan and Conor, relatives and friends sincere sympathy is tendered.

GALA FUNDRAISER
A Gala Fundraiser on Sunday 29th August to include a Sale of Work at 2 p.m. in the Church of Ireland Hall, Birr Road, a 'How Strong is
Your Pub' Tug of War in Borrisokane Town Park at 4 p.m. and a 'Duck Race' at 7 p.m. at the Bridge, Borrisokane. Donations for the Sale of Work greatly accepted in the Hall on

MINOR HURLING
In the Ger Gavin North Tipp Minor B Hurling Championship Group Stage Borrisokane were beaten by Newport on the scoreline of Borrisokane 1-10, Newport 1-14.

JUNIOR HURLING
In the Watch Centre North Tipp Junior B Hurling Championship Group Stage game played on Saturday last Borrisokane were beaten by
Silvermines 0-11 to 1-17.
