I am trying to trace my grandmother’s roots.
I have reason to believe that she could be the Ellen Houlihan, listed as the 13 year-old daughter of Mary Ann and James Houlihan of Main street Borrisokane in the 1911 census. I always thought she was from Clonmel but I can find no other reference that matches the name and the date of birth.
Ellen Houlihan (my grandmother) went on to marry Edward Bannon and moved to Cork at some point where she spent the rest of her life until her death in 1981.
I noticed that another ‘Nell’ erected a new headstone at Terryglass Old Cemetery in 2012 to commemorate her father James Bannon (Main St Borrisokane) who died in 1930 aged 78 which seems to tally with the census records.
I’m very interested to make contact with anyone who might be able to shed any light on this question.
If you can help then please get in touch through the website or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
I am seeking info on Dean Patrick Cahill. In the 1920s, he served as a curate in Clarecastle, Co. Clare. In 1986, he gave an interview at a special Mass in the village. We are doing a Parish book on people and places and would like to include that interview. It would be nice if we could add a photo or some personal details on the Dean. Perhaps you might have an obituary note on him. I would be very pleased to hear from you.
Best Wishes from Clarecastle,
My Wife and I are going to be visiting Dublin at the end of January. I plan on visiting Borrisokane since that’s where my ancestors are from. Is there a train or rail you’d recommend taking to get from Dublin to Borrisokane?
Hi, I hope you can help me.
My mother in law turns 50 soon and there is one person in her life that she’s always tried to emulate; her father.
Unfortunately he died around 1976/77 whilst playing Hurling, and he lived for a long time in Borrisokane.
His name was James Harte, (Jame Brian Harte).
I was wondering if anyone has any history or photos of him that can be sent on to me? My mother in law lost all of her photos years ago due to unforeseen circumstances and I would love to get some so that she can grab back pictures of memory she had of him.
He played hurling for Borrisokane and worked in a garage as a mechanic.
My mother in law’s name is Janet. She has a sister called Helen and a brother called John. Her mother’s name is Kathleen (Kate).
That’s all the information I currently have unfortunately but I really hope you can help.
My husband and I will will be traveling in Ireland in the Spring of 2014 to visit the birthplaces of our four Irish grandparents.
His grandmother, Bridget King, daughter of Peter and Norah (Hogan) King was born in Behamore, Cloughjordan in 1887. Her birth was registered in Borrisokane a few weeks later.
A relative obtained a copy of Bridget’s birth certificate in 1957 and it came from a Registry Office in Thurles.
Can you help me sort out where we need to go to look for the marriage record of Bridget’s parents and the birth certificates of her other siblings?
I appreciate your assistance”.
Some interesting website to find out more information about Borrisokane and surrounding areas
