Art Exhibition

An Art Exhibition/sale of artwork is taking place in the Old Church is taking place this August Bank Holiday.  An official launch is taking place on Friday, 31st July at 7.30pm sharp and will be opened by Marcella Corcoran Kennedy, TD, South Offaly and North Tipperary and our own Lord Mayor, Darragh McKenna.  All are welcome to attend this auspicious occasion and there a cheese and wine reception on the night.  The exhibition will be open Saturday, 10am to 6pm; Sunday 2pm to 6pm and Monday 2pm to 6pm. Historical Museum

Over the duration of the Art Exhibition, a small historical museum showing items from the 'olden days'  will be on display. See above for opening times at the Old Church.   Volunteer tour guides with a knowledge of the town and its history would be very welcome.  Contact Miriam on 086 8941626 for more information. 

Old Church Interim Meeting

A big clean up is taking place outside and inside the Old Church on this Wednesday, 29th July from 10am.  All are welcome to pop in and give a hand.

A further meeting is due to take place on Wednesday, 5th August at 8pm in the Old Church with a up to date report on the feedback from subgroups, Research, Business and Clean up.

Borrisokane Text Alert

Application forms are still available from any of the Forum members; local Garda station; Link Shop or the Green Bar. Personal alarm application forms also available.  The set up costs of insurance, signage and credit to the text providers are being met by proceeds from the community link shop.  There will be a €10 charge per household for 2 years to cover administration charges. Posts have been delivered and we are waiting for the Council to erect these signs.

The personal alarms will be valuable to elderly and vulnerable people living alone and allowing them to live independently.  These alarms are worked on either a pendant or watch.  The cost of the equipment is free and can be ordered from the committee members, but there is an annual administration charge of €66 payable to the service provider.  Please contact 086 8941626 for more information.

Computer Training

Zumba Dance

Zumba class was a great success for its first week. We had a full room with everyone enjoying the class with Christine. A great way to get fit and have fun.  Classes continue each Tuesday 7pm to 8pm in the Old Church. Christine is hosting a Forever Living launch party on the 30th July in the Old Church at 8pm.  All are welcome.

Community Link Shop

The Link Shop is open for business on Saturday in the Old Church from 10am - 3pm.  All donations are still welcome. Old Church

There was a steering committee meeting on Tuesday, 9th June.  See full report next week.  Great news for the preservation of this historical building. If anyone is interested in getting involved or has an opinion, please get in touch.  We would be delighted to hear from you.  All contributions are welcome.

Stitch n Sew – Adults (beginner and improver) sewing class

Starting Wednesday, 10th June 7-9pm in the Old Church.  €5 per class.  Bring a friend and learn a new skill  – all are welcome.

Supervised Study

We would like to wish all the Leaving Certificate students all the very best for the examinations.  The students who availed of the study space in the Old Church were a credit to their parents and we wish them well in their future chosen careers.  We hope to continue this service in September and depending on requests, may consider taking in Junior Cert students also.  More details to follow.

Women's Group

The Women's Group would like to thank Sandra for her make up demonstration and for Miriam to be a willing model!  This Thursday we have Marie giving a bread making demonstration. Men's Shed 

The Men Shed is open on the Main Street, Wednesday 11am-4pm. Historical Borrisokane

We are looking to host an event over the Summer to highlight the historical importance of Borrisokane.  We are looking to get a group together who have an interest in preserving and highlighting the history of the town.  If any one has anything to offer by way of stories, pictures, videos, newspaper clippings, etc, please get in touch.  We would be delighted to hear from you.

Children’s Art and Pottery Summer Camp @ the Old Church, Borrisokane

Children will get to hand make and decorate pottery.  Other activities include Drawing and painting with a party and talent competition on the final day.

After Schools Club
The After Schools Club finished up on Monday, 25th for the summer.  We had a party for the kids and would like to thank Aidan Claffey for keeping to the budget!   We would also like to thank the transition year students from the local secondary school for helping out with the children.  We are closed now for the summer and when we start back in September would be delighted to welcome new students.  Please contact Miriam 086-8941626 or Catriona 087-2912065 for further details.  Volunteering with the After Schools Club is also an opportunity for TY student to take part in the An Gaisce Awards (President's Awards) programme.  Ask for further details.
Supervised Study

As the Leaving Cert is fast approaching, we are allowing  Supervised study on Saturdays in the Old Church from 10am-3pm.  The cost is €3 per student.  The Leaving Cert students have an opportunity to take advantage of  space in the Old Church for some quiet study time until the Leaving Cert begins. The Women's Group loved the patchwork demonstration last Thursday. Many thanks to Jane Bulfin for her demonstration and sewing skills!  Also a huge thanks to Noirin in the library for organising this for the group to attend. Borrisokane Clean up!

Tipperary County Council and Tipp FM are organising a big clean up in Tipperary and Borrisokane is taking part on Wednesday, 3th June from 7pm to 9pm.  Gloves and bin bags will be provided - all that is needed now is the people power!  Meeting at the Bridge and jobs will be allocated by Borrisokane Tidy Town Committee.  If there is an area you think is an eyesore in the town, help organise a team and get it cleaned up!  All ages welcome.

There is a nominal  fee of €10 for two years per house (which covers insurance and signage). Public meeting to be held shortly.

 
After Schools Club
The After Schools Club continues every Monday afternoon until the end of May. We have transition year students from the local secondary school helping the children with their homework. This is a safe controlled and  supervised environment. If you would like to register your child please contact Miriam 086-8941626 or Catriona 087-2912065.

Spring Fair

The Spring Fair went smoothly yesterday and was a HUGE success, there was a great turn out and support from everyone. We would like to thank all the stall holders and anyone that supported us on Sunday. Energy Insulation Scheme - Update
